After doing extensive research, I came to conclude that this is arguably one of the best jackets Schott Bros. have produced. No break in required and extremely soft yet sturdy. Visited their flagship store in NYC and also bought the White Canvas Jacket that came out this season which I too love.
I do want to point out from one of the reviews I read that distinguishing which jackets are made purely in the USA and which ones have imported materials can be confusing. Despite this there is a very simple way to do so, though I still recommend asking.
If the inside tag says “MADE IN U.S.A.” then it’s 100% USA made. If the tag says “MADE IN U.S.A. OF U.S.A. & IMPORTED MATERIALS” then you guessed it, the materials are clearly from overseas.

Great jacket, great customer service

Fortunately I live near one of Schott's stores so I was able to try on a lot of different jackets to see how they fit and I was able to choose the right size and cut; my wife initially bought a "relaxed" cut jacket as a gift and it was HUGE on me. I exchanged it for this "slim" cut jacket and it fit perfectly with room to layer. The Schott people were great helping me exchange this gifted jacket for one that worked better and I had a great experience with the exchange; no hiccups.

Also, going to the store in-person let me ask questions about the care and maintenance of various models and look at the color of the jackets. If you don't live near a store, definitely reach out to customer support. They're super quick to answer emails and you're talking to a real person giving you knowledgeable answers. It's nice to have that kind of hand-holding these days.

On to the jacket... this jacket already feels lived in, so it's a heavy-weight leather jacket but incredibly soft right from the store; no break-in period required. I think it'd be great from 30-60 degree days. This is a great jacket.

Why four stars? I love that Schott does almost all of their manufacturing in the US but they almost seem to purposefully hide (no pun intended) where their leather comes from. I found out from customer support that a bunch of the leather they use for jackets is imported from other countries so if you want a truly "Made in USA" jacket vs. a jacket that is cut and sewn in the US with imported leather, definitely tell their shop employees or customer support people that you're looking for US-sourced leather and they can tell you which jackets they have that are truly "Made in USA".

Schott should do a better job labeling this information on their products in-store and on their website so you know what you're buying upfront.

Their website has a "Made in USA" section and jackets say "USA" but besides for that... no other information.

I'm happy with my purchase and Schott was great letting me exchange a jacket or two to get one actually "Made in USA", but it took me asking some questions and a couple of tries to find this amazing beauty.

FROM CBGBs TO NOW

I’ve been wearing leather jackets most of my life, and I don’t say that lightly. My relationship with leather started in the mid-80s when I was a punk kid playing gigs in New York. Christmas Eve, 1986, CBGBs — that was the first time I saw a truly great leather jacket in the wild. From that moment on, leather wasn’t fashion, it was armor.

Before that, I wore Empire leathers. After that night, Schott became the standard — the holy grail. Since 1987, Schott has been my benchmark. I own everything from their leather pea coat to multiple Perfectos. I’ve never felt the need to look elsewhere.

Until now.

This Horween leather rider is the real deal. The 3–4oz veg-tanned cowhide is thick, substantial, and confidence-inspiring, but it breaks in immediately. It has that rare combination of strength and softness — rugged without being stiff, supple without feeling precious. Calling it deerskin-soft isn’t exaggeration, it’s accurate.

The design is exactly what I want at this point in my life. No extra BS. No unnecessary details. Just a clean rider silhouette, solid hardware, bi-swing back that actually works, and adjustable side tabs that let you dial in the fit. The black-and-white plaid wool lining feels classic and intentional, not decorative. Everything has a purpose.

Fit-wise, it’s spot on. I’m 5'10", 150 lbs, and the Medium fits perfectly — tailored without being tight, structured without restricting movement. The proportions feel right standing, riding, or sitting.

This jacket feels grown, confident, and timeless. It doesn’t try to prove anything. It just shows up and does the job — which is exactly what great leather should do. In my 50s, that’s what matters most.

This is Horween at its best, and easily one of the finest leather jackets I’ve owned.

Exceeded Expectations

I have a brown Schott Bomber Jacket that I absolutely love and was looking for something in black. I consequently sent for several Schott jackets in black that I hoped would work.. They are all marvelous, but shared a common characteristic, just amazing quality, but too heavy. I am not done looking and am hoping I can find something not so heavy. I wish that Schott offered more jacket styles in a lighter leather material.

We recommend trying the styles 246 and 562. They are similar styles with lighter weight leathers. The 246 is a lightweight lambskin and the 562 is a lighter pebbled cowhide.

Love it

This is by far the nicest jacket I’ve ever owned. I’m 6’2” and weigh about 195 with broad shoulders and fairly long arms and the XL fits very perfectly.
The color is more of a dark grey than black (which is not a negative, just pointing it out) The jacket is very well made and feels very warm. The lining looks fantastic. It is heavy but not overly so; just enough to make you realize you’re wearing a quality jacket. The buckles on the sides are nice in case you are thinner like me and want the bottom to fit a little closer to your waist to keep the wind out. Thank you Schott for making such a fine product! I am a first-time buyer but after seeing this beauty I’ll be buying more in the future

The Best of The Best

Read the other reviews, they're all right. This jacket is so nice, It's soft, yet built like a tank. Built like a tank, yet you can move easily around in it. It looks great when wearing it and is very stylish. I highly recommend this jacket. You won't regret it.

Happy old guy

I have simple tastes, I am always satisfied with the best and this jacket takes the cake. I am 72 years old and have had many bikes and leathers over the years, but nothing compares to this jacket. If you’re on the fence just pull the trigger, don’t wait like I did. I am 5’10” , and around 200 lbs, and XL fit is perfect. Thanks

Amazing!

I looked far and wide for a jacket like this. I prefer the look and feel of a nice, substantial cowhide - this jacket takes it to another level with a buttery soft touch.

It's a beast - weighing in at nearly 6 lbs! An amazingly made jacket meant to last a lifetime and be passed on....

Love it!

All of these 5 star reviews are legit

I bought this jacket around late 2023 I thought I’d give my review.

Leather-Dark grey! Very unique for a leather jacket. I really like it. It’s very soft, almost like wearing a weighted blanket. Definitely a nice weight to it. Smells good oc??.

Fit-I purchased a small. I’m 5’10”. Weight 148-157 pounds(I weigh myself everyday at work). It fits great, I only like to wear a T-shirt under my leather jackets so the fit is slim but not restricted. My chest size is 38 maxed out while taking a deep breath lol.
Slightly longer in the front. I have a slightly shorter than average torso and longer than average arms. But this fits perfectly.?????

Price-Don’t look just buy it u won’t regret it. Just look at the reviews….everyone is happy with this jacket. I also read mostly all the reviews before I bought it an some don’t like the buckles on the side, I don’t really care for them either, wouldn’t go out of my way to get them removed. If anything it makes it look even classier.

High quality jacket

Well-made jacket. I love the design. The leather is absolutely beautiful. It's got some weight to it which is nice.

I'm a woman (5'2" with a relatively short torso and wider hips) and I usually wear a women's medium or large and can typically fit into a men's small. With this being a men's style, I initially ordered a small, but found that the jacket was much too tight in the hip area (couldn't zipper), so I exchanged for a medium. Very happy with the fit. I can comfortably wear a lightweight sweater or sweatshirt under this.
There's some excess material around the shoulders, but I would expect that with it not being cut for women. However, I find most women's jackets are too restrictive in the shoulders, so the extra room is welcome.

Little update

A quick update regarding my first review -

For anyone who is digging this 693 but dislikes the bottom side belt buckles the way I did - I just took the jacket to a well reviewed leather tailor in town. He took both of them off - super clean, quick and easy. Charged me $30.

To me personally, this jacket is perfect now.
Clean, elegant and smooth without all the epaulettes, belts and buckles.

Absolutely loving it!

This jacket is the bees knees

First time leather jacket purchaser here. Went big. Didn’t get my measurements but read the reviews and concluded I’d gamble with an L and swap out to an M if needed.

I’m 5’ 11”, 33 waist, teeter between 180-185 lbs.
Very fit, lift regularly, 11-12% body fat, flat stomach etc.
I don't naturally have the widest shoulders and normally wear M for T-shirts and button-ups.

The jacket arrived in a nice box, plastic covering, Schott coat hanger and accompanied with stickers and a thank you card.

Quality is undeniable, friends.. It feels like running silk in your hand. Smell is intoxicating. Liner and hardware all feel like quality.

Model pics are not accurate as far as color. First three pics are what you should expect. More of a smooth, darkish gray/black.
Jacket looks fantastic. Doesn’t give off aggressive biker vibes.

Compliment city first time I wore it out. Whole world and its mother asking me about it and even a few more leaning in for a whiff of the leather. Nice.

Few cons that are specific to me and don’t take away from 5 star rating:

1. While L fits me amazingly, it’s like 98% perfect. A WEE bit too big. Barely noticeable. With how the L currently fits I can only imagine that an M would sit perfectly flush on the body, I would look like a Matrix movie character, but I wouldn’t be able to move my arms at all and would be very uncomfortable walking around.

2. Jacket is a bit heavy. Not necessarily a bad thing. I live in CO so the extra weight and warmth is totally fine.

3. I don’t entirely dig the belt buckles on the bottom sides of the jacket. If they weren’t there this jacket would go from already awesome to complete perfection. Just my personal taste.

4. Lady answering the phone in NYC is a little rude and short tempered.
I can understand the shop is super busy and the team isn’t too excited talking to first time purchasers asking all the basic questions they’ve already been asked a million times.
But hey, $1500 being spent. Let a dude ask what’s the difference between cow and sheep (-;

Not too upset about it and still thrilled with this 693. It’s an absolute stunner for sure.

Nothing compares

This is one of the finest pieces of clothing I have ever owned. Top notch quality construction, and the Horween leather is beautiful. It gets better every time you wear it. My only regret is that I didn’t purchase this jacket sooner.

Absolutely beautiful

The softest leather you will ever feel in your life.
Thick and tough yet incredibly supple. I love how easily I can move, and how comfortable I feel. Will definitely keep me warm all year round.
My only qualm is that it’s a little short; I originally found this jacket used in a medium but it was too short so I ended up getting a size large. I am 6’3, usually wear a medium but a large fit me well with the hip buckles fastened tight. Can’t wait to put some use on this jacket

WOWED

I wear an 18/37 dress shirt with 46” chest and wide shoulders. The XXL fits perfectly. A 642 size 48 is a little short in sleeves and tight across my shoulders so I’m thinking that XXL fits like a size 50. I wear 34/36 Levis so I’m hard to fit off the shelf. The leather is incredibly soft the finish is not shiny, more of a matte finish with dark grey highlights. WOWED!!

Worth the wait.

I ordered this exquisite jacket back in 12/21 - was delivered in 5/22 and I have never looked forward so much to the cold as I do right now. Description on is website is accurate, but perhaps an understatement of how bad-ass this jacket is.

My last leather jacket, of a much less premium brand, lasted me about 15 years and I wanted to find a premium product that would last at least that long. Given my assessment of the craftsmanship, materials, and reputation of Schott, I am certain I got the right jacket.

Customer service was highly responsive, knowledgeable, courteous, and patient with me as I worked through sizing questions and an exchange to get the best fit.

If I can think of any improvement, it would be if they offered a true 42 instead of a 42-44/L. My build is 42" chest and 32" waist and I am looking for a slim fit. I tried squeezing into a M, and although it fit better around my waistline, my chest is too broad. The L fits perfectly in the chest, but there is excess room in the waist. I may see if I can find a leather worker who can take it in.

Buy with confidence knowing that the craftsmanship and service are topflight. I look forward to buying additional Schott products in the future.

Gorgeous jacket

I loved this jacket, the thick leather and quality. However, for me, the fit wasn’t quite right for me. I am 6’1” 195 with a 43” chest, and ordered XL (I like loose for layering). The shoulders and arms fit well, I just felt the torso wasn’t quite slim enough feel for myself. I would recommend highly though.

Heavy Duty, and very soft

Love this jacket, it is very heavy with thick leather, but soft and no need to break in. The finish is more matte, and almost a dark gray color which I love. I am 6’1” 195lbs 43”chest and ordered XL, which fits me perfect with some room to layer. Large, for me, would have been too snug. A little too warm for the upcoming summer in Seattle, but look forward to wearing in Fall/winter.

Extraordinary Jacket

Jacket took a long time to come but worth the wait (glad I was patient).

Large was a little snug in the body (I'm 6'0" and weigh 190#). Exchanged it for an XL that fits great.

This is a damn nice jacket that will get passed down when I am done. I hope that they will appreciate it as much as I do.

Thanks for a quality made in the USA product!

The right life, this jacket is.

I look and feel just like ole' Mad Max wearing this. I'd gladly scrape pavement with it, too. Never wore any thicker leather and a most supple jacket, it is. Sheila wants me for it, but I won't let her near it.

If you add up all the textile and armor you'll ever get, this turns out cheap over a lifetime.

I got one of these back in Summer, medium. And one this winter, large. 90-degree heat? It's got ventilation. A front zipper, Adjust four inches down - just nice.

This along with a kick start for my '72 in front of the dandies? That's the right life.

Beautiful Leather Jacket

This is my third Schott leather jacket, and another pure classic by the legendary manufacturer. I love the simplicity of the design in this model, and on the flip side is very comfortable to wear. Echoing what other’s have said here the leather is the best I have ever felt in person (I’ve had a few leather jackets). It is however ever so slightly more gray (charcoal) in color to my other Schott jackets, but this just adds to its unique charm in my opinion. If your on the fence on this one just bite the bullet - your are unlikely to be disappointed. This one’s a keeper and allows you to fly under the radar, whilst literally wearing the Best there is, and still proudly made in the USA. Perfecto Capeesh!

The jacket by which all jackets should be judged

Let me try to explain how much I love this jacket.

Like so many, I gained weight during the pandemic. Enough weight where I couldn’t zip up my medium P693. Now, everyone has reasons they want to lose weight. They want to be healthy. They want to not feel out of breath when doing normal activities. Or, if they’re like me, they want to be able to zip their P693.

When you spend north of $1000 on a jacket, you’re expecting it to be the best jacket you’ve ever worn. You will not be disappointed. It’s smooth. It’s warm. It’s heavy. It’s strong. It’s Schott quality. It’s luxurious. It’s an investment.

It’s downright perfect(o)!

So Lucky to Wear This Jacket

Of course, it’s a Schott Perfecto, so it’s a fun jacket to have but you still will not be prepared for the big s___eating grin that will fatigue your smile muscles every time you pull on this jacket. This matte black Perfecto is beautifully understated with a vibe of mystery. And no worries about your girlfriend making off with it as its heft might well sprain the fair maid’s wrist, heh. Fun aside, though, the craftsmanship and know-how to produce the leather in this jacket and the artistry, integrity and work ethic its construction and fit showcase make you humble and grateful to share and proudly wear this made in the USA gift. My third Schott jacket and I feel really lucky to have this one, I mean really lucky! You have to see this jacket in person to appreciate it fully. Thank you, Schott!
